My paintings begin with familiar snack cakes and use them to explore form, color, memory, and perception. Through repetition, arrangement, and changes in scale and composition, I try to make these ordinary objects feel less familiar — sometimes more like sculpture, pattern, or landscape than food.
I work with a muted palette and I'm drawn to the contradictions in these objects. They can feel nostalgic and comforting, but also artificial and slightly strange. I always paint from life, paying attention to surfaces, colors, and shadows.
I've stayed with this subject because the longer I look at these "simple" objects, the more complicated they become. Painting them is a way of finding something surprising in unexpected places.
